PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER

The Strafford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applications for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher with the agency. This position, as indicated as part of the job description, is a Labor Grade 8 position. Staff seeking full-time employment, feeling they meet the requirements listed in the attached job description is encouraged to send résumé and cover letter to Director Justin Bellen.
Qualified interested candidates will take part in the following process:

1. Written test consisting of 55 questions that will take approximately two hours to complete. The test will that measure the critical skills of listening comprehension, problem-solving, multitasking and composure under stress.
2. Oral interview related to attitude, judgment, leadership, self-expression, education /experience and regular attendance.

Full-Time Public Safety Dispatcher Posting Date: 2/22/24

I. Full-Time (40 hours) assigned to work for the Strafford County Sheriff’s Office, Dover, New Hampshire, as a Dispatcher in the Public Safety Communications Center.

II. Candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Eighteen years of age.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work a varied work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Able to successfully pass a thorough background examination.
• Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening and drug test.
• Able to successfully complete a training program.
• Possess advanced typing skills
• Able to remain calm and effectively retain and communicate information in emergency situations
• Must not have any felony convictions

III. Qualified interested candidates will take part in the following process:

• Oral interview related to attitude, judgment, leadership, self-expression, education experience and regular attendance.

Date/Time for each to be scheduled at a later date.

IV. Working knowledge of computers and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively is desirable.

V. Previous emergency dispatch experience is preferred but not required.
