Strafford County Register of Deeds Reminds County Residents of Property Fraud Alert Service that is Available

Owners to take advantage of a free service offered by the Strafford Registry of Deeds Office to help protect real property owners in Strafford County against property fraud. Strafford County residents and/ or those who own property in Strafford County may sign up on the Strafford County Registry of Deeds website to receive a property fraud alert. Property Fraud Alert is an automated database that monitors activity involving land records filed in the Strafford County Registry of Deeds.
The Property Fraud Alert system notifies individuals when transactions involving their property are recorded in the Strafford County Register of Deeds. The system provides property owners with notice of possible fraudulent activity involving their land records. This can include notice of fraudulent liens or mortgages. If you do not own real property in Strafford County, you may still subscribe if you are a Strafford County resident and you will be alerted if a document is recorded in your name within Strafford County.
This service is easy to sign up for and offers some peace of mind to property owners. Participants are able to choose whether to receive their alerts via email or by a phone call. Register of Deeds Berube states, “this helpful service is free of charge to the County and is an underused service. It is a benefit provided by the Registry of Deeds software provider for the County land records. Subscribers to this alert system will be able to take prompt, appropriate action if fraudulent activity is detected as to their real property or if the subscriber’s name is used to fraudulently to obtain a document”.
