Meet CVHS's longest-term resident, Hemingway, who is affectionately known around the shelter as "Hemi."

Hemi has been in our care for a combined total of over 250 days. When he first came to the shelter in 2017, he was in heart-breaking condition. Hemi survived abuse and neglect, and he had the physical and emotional scars to prove it. He had been betrayed by the human he had trusted most: his owner.

Due to his traumatic experiences, Hemi exhibited some behavioral issues. He was understandably anxious and distrusting of humans. We knew finding him a home wouldn't be easy, but we were determined to find him a loving family. After just three months at CVHS, Hemi was adopted.

Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, Hemi's adoption didn't work out.

Hemi returned to the shelter in October. We're still looking for his forever home.

We know that a special guy like Hemi needs a special home. That's why we're launching #HappinessForHemi to find the right adopter for him.

Read more about Hemi in our latest blog post. Share his story and help us spread the word about this goofy, playful guy. Together we can find him the home of his dreams and finally get some #HappinessForHemi.

Humane Education Spotlight

In February, CVHS's Humane Education team facilitated lessons on animal care and safety for local children during school vacation weeks!

Rochester Child Care Center programs hosted our Humane Education team at Gonic Elementary, Chamberlain Elementary, and Maple Elementary schools. The students learned how to care for the furry friends in their lives, and got to meet the newest four-legged member of our team, Zeus!

At the Children's Museum of New Hampshire, our humane educators were invited to take part in Animal Days! They participated in fun, educational animal-themed crafts and activities. The children at the events also got to meet a guinea pig duo, Oliver and Luke, and a beautiful dog named Bella!

Thank you to all who participated in each of these events and helped us share animal education with our youngest community members!

Capital Campaign

The new site of the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Cocheco Valley is nearing completion! The walls are up, the roof is on, and we're steadily working our way towards putting on the final touches!

Though we're planning for a late spring move-in date, we still have a ways to go in fundraising for our Capital Campaign. We're just $500,000 short of our fundraising goal. Without closing this gap in funds, we will be able to move to the new building, but it will not be finished.

Donate to our Capital Campaign today and help us cross the finish line! There are still naming opportunities available!

For more info, please contact Deb Shelton.
